Solid argument here. The connection between curiosity and avoiding "system players" in football really nails it tbh, we've optimized out the risk takers who make thingsinteresting. Back in my uni days i remember watching Ronaldinho just do whatever felt right and defenses had no playbook for that. Now everyone's playing safe becuase algorithms reward consistency over creativity and the result is just less fun to watch.

It's definitely not just football-specific, too; we see it in basketball. Data shows that the 3-pointer is statistically more likely to generate points than points in the paint and mid-range shots but now we've seen less risk-taking in driving to the basket. Which is why someone like Jokic is currently such a joy to watch: he defies everything the stats have told us, despite his continued record-breaking play.
